
This organization shall be known as MAJOR MAGIC.
Section 1. MAJOR
MAJOR refers to the MerAmec Juggling ORganization of St. Louis Community College at Meramec, 11333 Big Bend Blvd., Kirkwood, MO, 63122. Contact current faculty sponsor/advisor (CMMFS): Wm. Thayer, Mathematics Department, by Mail, Phone 314 984 7866, Office SW 218 or

Section 2. MAGIC
A name that is associated with SLCC @ Meramec College to indicate the spirit of SLCC @ Meramec College for all types of philanthropy, i.e. better humankind.
Section 3. MAJOR MAGIC
MAJOR MAGIC is any one of the following: 1. A Faculty, Staff And Administrator Organization or 2. A Performance Organization (stage, theatre or street) or 3. A Student Activities Organization or any combination of 1, 2 or 3 at any given time.
Section 1. PROMOTION OF JUGGLING
MAJOR MAGIC as a Juggling Club or Organization is to promote the art, science and other aspects of juggling within St. Louis Community College (SLCC) as well as within the St. Louis general community.
Section 2. SENSE OF A JUGGLING SPIRIT
MAJOR MAGIC provides information and support to fellow jugglers and the general public through inspiration, communication, and cooperation.
Section 3. GENERAL EDUCATION
MAJOR MAGIC educates the student body of SLCC through the use and development of juggling skills and concepts.
Section 4. JOY
MAJOR MAGIC members are interested in the pursuit of happiness via juggling and related arts and may convene for mutual education and participation in juggling activities for the fun of it.
Section 5. COMMUNITY SERVICE-LEARNING
MAJOR MAGIC yields community service-learning.
Mission Statement: MAJOR MAGIC is dedicated to promoting the juggling arts and sciences amongst jugglers and lay persons alike. MAJOR MAGIC PROMOTES PHILANTHROPY.
Section 1. ELIGIBILITY
Any part time, full time or adjunct students, staff, faculty, or administrator of St. Louis Community College at any SLCC location or those individuals who have been members in the past.
Section 2. DIVISIVENESS
This organization does not discriminate in the selection of members or appointments when discrimination is defined as denying individuals membership or appointment on the basis of a person's age, race, ethnic origin, national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, creed, religion, handicap, place of residence, or other division.
Section 3. QUALIFICATIONS
Major Magic Members include those who do any one or more of:
A. show up for any one or more MAJOR MAGIC meetings,
B. attend a class, a meeting or a function that related to juggling,
C. have an intellectual interest in juggling,
D. promote the art, science or performance of juggling in a positive way,
E. support any juggling performance in any positive way,
or
F. help MAJOR MAGIC better it self in any way.
Section 4. PERFORMANCE
Persons interested in the performance aspect come together and practice their hobby, as well as learn new skills and often do this in an open street performance area. See Article X. for common juggling props and Article VIII for types of meetings.
Section 5. CLUB COORDINATION COUNCIL (CCC) MEMBERS (List)
Those who have signed a student activities Club Coordination Council (CCC) CLUB ROSTER FORM for MAJOR MAGIC are also members of MAJOR MAGIC. Several STUDENTS, a CLUB CONTACT STUDENT and a FACULTY/STAFF SPONSOR are listed on this form and it is needed in the Student Activities Office during the first few weeks of each semester. One student, a sponsor or another student activities club representative needs to represent MAJOR MAGIC by attending student activities CCC meetings for MAJOR MAGIC's inclusion in Meramec's student activities, clubs, or organizations. These CCC meetings occur once a month during fall and spring semesters.
Section 6. HONORARY MEMBERS (List)
Honorary membership may be bestowed on affiliates or non-affiliates of SLCC. This privilege shall be granted by majority vote by members in attendance at any MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meeting (MMOM). Honorary memberships may be given copiously to individuals that exemplify (Section 3) qualifications. An individual does not need to be a member or honorary member of MAJOR MAGIC in order to attend meetings and a member or honorary member of MAJOR MAGIC does not need to attend any meetings to maintain membership.
Section 7. LEARNING ASPECTS AND DEVELOPMENT
Anyone who wants to learn juggling, anyone who wants to meet with other jugglers to practice juggling or make juggling props is a member of MAJOR MAGIC, a juggling organization. Since juggling is a good metaphor for learning and a healthy learning activity for the aging mind, members acquire personal value from the juggling struggle.
Section 8. MEMBERSHIP RECOGNITION
Declare your membership to MAJOR MAGIC by contacting the sponsor or put your name on the member page.
Section 9. MAJOR MAGIC members do not need to attend meetings nor pay dues to be in good standing. See Article IX: FINANCE, Section 1, about dues.
A MAJOR MAGIC sponsor means the same as advisor and acts as an event sponsor when needed.
Section 1. The CONTACT MAJOR MAGIC FACULTY SPONSOR for MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meetings (MMOMs) must be named each semester.
One SLCC Faculty member represents MAJOR MAGIC in all SLCC interactions and this member is called the CONTACT MAJOR MAGIC FACULTY SPONSOR (CMMFS).

Section 2. MAJOR MAGIC FACULTY, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATOR MAJOR MAGIC members include: Kelly Ballard, Bernadette Dignan, Gail Hafer, Richard Kennison, Ted Lampros (emeritus), Laurie McManus, Bill Thayer and others. You may ask these individuals to sponsor LTJM, SEM, seminar or classroom juggling activities or lessons.
Section 3. During the times that there are no active student members in MAJOR MAGIC meetings the SLCC faculty, staff and administrator members are the members of MAJOR MAGIC and MAJOR MAGIC is considered a SLCC faculty, staff and administrator juggling organization.
Section 1. INTENTION
MAJOR MAGIC members aim to promote the art and science of juggling and its recreational and therapeutic values within the learning community and the adjacent neighborhood, especially during special events.
Section 2. DUTIES
Duties of the members of MAJOR MAGIC may include one or more of the following:
A. Practice and endeavor to improve physical skills in juggling.
B. Teach juggling skills or concepts to anyone who wishes to learn.
C. Share juggling ideas and methods with other jugglers and the public.
D. Develop intellectual aspects of juggling.
E. Develop performance aspects of juggling.
Section 3. VOTE
Voting privileges will be given to any and all members who come to any meeting. Each member has only one vote and must be present during the meeting in which the vote is taken.
Section 4. REPRIMAND OR EXPULSION
A member of MAJOR MAGIC may be expelled for one of two reasons:
A. Violation of the official rules of SLCC or MAJOR MAGIC.
B. Disruptive or disrespectful conduct at meetings or other MAJOR MAGIC sponsored activities.
A majority vote by members in a second MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meeting (MMOM) is required to expel a member. The first MMOM is used to discuss the negative conduct and resulting action. The CMMFS will talk with this member between the two meetings to find potential alternative solutions and present these in the second MMOM.
Section 1. IF AND WHEN
Each semester members of MAJOR MAGIC may elect the following student officers: President, Vice
President, Treasurer, Secretary and CCC Contact Person or not depending on member student interest.
Section 2. OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. President is the head organizer, conducts meetings and is the leader.
B. Vice President assists and advises the president on decisions to be made.
C. Treasurer takes care of the assets, props, aspects of the organization and talks with a SLCC Dean when needed.
D. Secretary records attendance for LTJMs and MMOMs and minutes for MMOMs. (See Article VIII, Sections 1 and 2.)
and
E. CCC Contact Person attends CCC meetings or finds a CCC representative who will also represent MAJOR MAGIC.
Section 3. Elections
MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meetings (MMOMs) are required for the voting of officers. Nominations and elections will be held at the beginning of each semester in two MMOMs if members wish to have officers. Changes may happen during the semester in two MMOMs by a vote of members as well. One MMOM for nominations (or changes) and a second MMOM for the election. Members may volunteer for an office and if not opposed will not need an election to hold that office. One individual may hold more than one office.
Section 3. CHANGE OF OFFICE
A majority vote is needed for an officer change if an office is opposed.
All MAJOR MAGIC meetings are open to all members of MAJOR MAGIC.
Section 1. LTJM
Learn To Juggle Meetings (LTJM) are held weekly. Thursday around noon time is typical. A spontaneous LTJM may be called at any time. Changes may be made to suit the membership and these may be determined during the semester as needed. Attendance is not required for members but if members attend they should help any interested person learn to juggle or learn more about juggling. A faculty sponsor should be present for LTJMs when possible.
Section 2. MMOM
MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meetings (MMOMs) may be called by any member at any time to take care of the organization of MAJOR MAGIC. The general format of the meetings shall be the presentation of any old business followed by presentation of any new business using Roberts Rules Of Order, RONR(10th ed.), and followed by Open Juggling Order (OJO). The CONTACT MAJOR MAGIC FACULTY SPONSOR (CMMFS) must be present for any meeting that changes the MAJOR MAGIC Constitution or Officers.
Section 3. PLACE
MAJOR MAGIC generally meets in the Applied Science (AS) - Lecture Hall (LH) quadrangle when outside meetings are held and inside large areas in Applied Science, Lecture Hall or Science South (SS) and Science West (SW) otherwise. The MAJOR MAGIC sponsor may be found in the Mathematics Department.
Section 4. SEM
SPECIAL EVENT MEETINGS (SEM) including but not limited to: parades, festivals, local school functions, local care centers and the like.
Section 5. QUORUM
Considering the type of organization we have,
meetings can always be held with the sponsor (CMMFS) and one or more other members attending. For more important meetings, such as planning a special event, more members are needed to carry these meetings in an effective way.
Section 6. ATTENDANCE
Any member or honorary member of MAJOR MAGIC does not need to attend any meetings to maintain membership and a non voting individual does not need to be a member or honorary member of MAJOR MAGIC in order to attend meetings.
Section 1. NO DUES
There are NO DUES in MAJOR MAGIC.
Section 2. NO FUNDS
Currently, MAJOR MAGIC does not collect, use, work with or hold money in any account for any reason. A SLCC Dean may sponsor and/or finance some activities of MAJOR MAGIC as has been done by the Meramec Division of Mathematics and Communications in the past for help with activities that promoted area understanding of mathematics including juggling theory.
Section 3. OTHER SUPPORT
If MAJOR MAGIC members wish to use CCC funds then the Dean Of Student Support Services should be contacted for printed information on how such funds are secured, distributed and used.
Section 4. SUPPLIES
Members are not be required to pay any dues to the organization. However, it is encouraged that members supply, make or buy, their own juggling props.
Section 5. INDEPENDENT OPERATOR
Any funds offered for an exhibition or a performance of MAJOR MAGIC members as representatives of MAJOR MAGIC shall be refused. A suggestion that offered funds may further the "learning to juggle" ability of those offering such funds should be the standard reply. No private monies shall be paid MAJOR MAGIC or to an individual member of MAJOR MAGIC unless the member has been contracted as an INDEPENDENT OPERATOR. An INDEPENDENT OPERATOR contracts for an exhibition or performance without reference to MAJOR MAGIC membership even if a member.
Juggling props may include but is not limited to: juggling, diablo, devil/crystal stix, contact juggling, yo-yo, cigar boxes, cups, ball and plate spinning, and balancing but not fire-eating, juggling fire or knifes or other dangerous props, sword swallowing, magic tricks and unicycling.
Props of a dangerous nature will not be permitted for use during regularly scheduled meetings without prior consent from the Dean Of Student Support Services or Dean Of Mathematics and Communications.
Section 1. AMENDMENTS
AMENDING THIS MAJOR MAGIC CONSTITUTION/BYLAWS OR SPECIAL ARTICLES:
Changes in this constitution/bylaws must be agreed upon by the members who show up for two MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meetings (MMOMs). The first MMOM is for the amendment proposal and the second MMOM is for the amendment vote. The same members are not required to be present at both meetings. See Article VII, Section 2., for MMOMs information. A majority vote is needed for an amendment change.
Section 2: PROPOSED AMENDMENT NOTIFICATION
A proposal amendment to this Constitution shall be presented to the sponsor (CMMFS) before or during the first MMOM. Members shall be notified by Web page announcement of proposed amendments one meeting prior to voting. This Constitution shall be amended by a simple majority vote of the membership at a second meeting.
Section 3. PUBLIC NOTIFICATION
A Web Page address for a copy of this constitution will be provided to any SLCC person upon request. Said individual may print this constitution at any time.
Section 4. MMOM SCHEDULE
MAJOR MAGIC Organizational Meeting (MMOM) schedules and meeting information as indicated above will be posted at URL: http://jug.net/wt/mmomsch.htm which is the WEB ANNOUNCEMENT PAGE for MAJOR MAGIC. Keep an eye on this page once a week for meeting information.
