Meramec Campus Mathematics Projects
Project # 1.
Students, faculty and others take a walk (or run) around the Meramec
Campus.
A. How far is one lap around the block?
B. How did you check your estimate of the distance(?) and what were
the results?
C. How long is you stride when walking? running?
Please remember to draw a map of the campus block showing your path.
Project # 2.
A person may change their stride length due to walking or running
down or up a slope.
A. Locate slope around the campus block where the incline runs for
several hundred feet. Draw a map of the run showing the ground
position then another drawing of the elevation (side cut view).
B. Use two or three ways to find the slope and show how you got
your results with each method.
C. Walk up counting your steps for a known distance then
calculate your stride length.
D. Walk down counting your steps for a known distance then
calculate your stride length.
E. Do A through D for a different slope and see if there is a pattern
relating steepness to the stride for you.
